2026-2027 Volunteer Orchestra Auditions
Oboe and Bassoon Auditions
The Mesquite Symphony Orchestra is accepting video auditions for volunteer orchestra positions beginning with the 2026-2027 season.
The MSO was named The American Prize Winner in Orchestral Performance (Community Division), 2025.
Open Positions
- Principal Oboe
- Section Oboe
- Principal Bassoon
- Section Bassoon
- Optional contrabassoon consideration for bassoon applicants
Applicants may request consideration for both principal and section openings on their instrument.
Membership in the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra is on a volunteer basis.
Audition Format
Auditions will be reviewed by video submission. Applicants may submit a single link or multiple links using the file-sharing or video-sharing service of their choice. Applicants should confirm that all links are shareable and accessible to the audition review team.
Auditions will be reviewed through a blind process. The MSO Board President will collect application materials and assign each applicant an anonymous audition ID before materials are forwarded for musical review.
Applicants should avoid identifying themselves in audition videos, including spoken introductions, visible names, or identifying file titles when possible.

Oboe Audition Packet
Includes Section Oboe excerpts and additional Principal Oboe excerpts for principal applicants.
Bassoon Audition Packet
Includes Section Bassoon excerpts, additional Principal Bassoon excerpts, and optional Contrabassoon excerpts.
Membership Expectations
Members of the orchestra are permitted up to two absences per concert cycle.
Principal players are expected to communicate in a timely fashion with their section, make part assignments, communicate assignments to the Music & Artistic Director and Personnel Manager, and make a concerted effort to secure substitutes for performances and rehearsals when needed. The Personnel Manager can assist with substitute coordination.
Application Materials
A resume is optional and may be submitted as a shareable URL link to a PDF, Google Doc, or Word document. Resume materials are collected for administration and are not included in the initial blind musical review.
